The sensor is fitted to the wheel - the correct tyre pressure is set on the wheel - then it is programmed to the car. The sensor then looks for any change - say 2 or 10 % variance and the cars sytem then extrapulates this to be a pressure reading. The early systems where too sensitive and as a result Renault where able to reprogramme to allow a larger percentage change.
In other words its senses any change
from a predetermined setting.
