On some cars especially around the early 90s CD would mean just that - a car that had a factory fitted CD player!
The Toyota Carina E was a good example of this, no different to a GS except it had a CD player (and maybe some plastic wood)
I sometimes wonder if stuff like that is true or whether people just jump to the obvious conclusion and start passing it off as fact.
When I had the Mazda 323F, one of the models in the range was the GLX-SR. The main differences over the standard GLX were electric mirrors and a sunroof. The dealer told me that SR actually stood for 'Sun Roof.' I was never sure whether to believe it.
It's easier to believe with the Japanese marques to be honest.
