Brakes - Clio

Hi, about 4 months ago I had my clio serviced and a new, full, brake kit installed.

My brakes seem to fail and just slip after I have either braked sharply or put a lot of pressure on them. I know, when I set off, after the car being stood for a few hours, I race to the end of my street and warm up the brakes a little so they stick better. However it just seems that every so often when I go that little bit further with them, that they have a tendancy to just no do anything! I have allmost hit the side of a lorry like this! I have recently taken one of my wheels off to replace it, when I looked that brake rubbers, they still have a lot of 'meat' on them.

I dont know if it is something to do with the rubber being overheated that is causing it to slip, but it is the only thing I can think of, off the top of my head.
