Can I presume that as the morning temperature was noticeably lower, it took some time for the tyres to reach the normal pressure?

Yeah, the pressures in the tyres are lower when they are cold, and the pressure will increase when the tyres get warm.

I'd suggest topping your tyres up a bit and see if this resolve the issue for tomorrow morning.

As I recall there was a a recall some years back where Renault re-programmed the TPMS to increase the variation in pressure difference that the system could handle.... Maybe your car escaped that process.
