Clio diesel vs petrol

For numerous reasons, now looking to get rid of my 97 Saxo diesel and get a Clio. Ideally second hand but still within warranty.
My Saxo diesel gives me 60 plus to the gallon but is slow and well, just boring!
I want a 5 door Clio but not sure whether to go for diesel or petrol. The dci 65 seems a bit gutless, is the 85 much better (they seem very hard to find secondhand).
Also is the 1.2 powerful enough or, again, is there a big difference going up to the 1.4?

Overall, I want a "fun" car but not going to go for a 172 or anything like that. I suppose any car would be a fun car compared to a Saxo diesel!

Anyone any thoughts / ideas on the Clio? Also what spec do I need to go for to get alloys, aircon etc. Finally, with the new Clio now on sale, was there any special "run-out" models of the old shape loaded up with all the options like Renault usually do?
