It is just a way of getting money out of you as you don't need to do anything to when you change a xenon lamp. They would also tell you that they have to change it as well which they don't you can do it your self. The xenon lamps should last as long as the car in theory as there is nothing to wear out like on a filiment lamp. If you want more information then i suggest that you google HID lights which will explain how they work .
Its a bit optimistic to say they'll last the life of the vehicle. They should outlast the warranty period but over 6 or 7 years and its finger crossing time
