Had exactly the same problem with my parking sensors. Turned out that the terminals on the parking sensor box had corroded up.
It's a relatively easy fix actually.
You will need to remove the left hand side boot lining and plastic trim surrounding the lining. You will see a black box screwed to the chassis. The box is about the same size as a cigarette packet. Unscrew the box, unplug the cable and withdraw the box. Spray a load of contact cleaner onto the terminals and use a cotton bud or similar to wipe away the crud. Do the same for the connector.
Make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the box.
When you've cleaned the contacts, plug it in and try the sensors. It worked for me, and i've never read about any other problems with the scenic's sensors - so i'm guessing at the above problem.
Hope this helps
