Anti-skid surfaces in some certain cases make matters worse - especially in area where trees and shrubbery are close by. Whilst anti-skid surfaces are designed to give more tyre grip they are also suceptible to clogging with dead leaves, etc, which in turn can make matters worse - additionally they tend to hold surface water that bit longer and in freezing conditions are likely to form a thin layer of ice.
I can understand the council considering the need to trim trees, etc.
Well it good to see that the council are aware of the problems but as it happens in many road engineering problems there just isn't one easy solution.
