Just a quick update, the garage was wrong to say it would be covered by warranty, they should have checked first. However the very nice people at Renault UK customer service agreed to pay 90%.
Just got it home and now hissing from front end, sounds like aircon is leaking? Time will tell!
Better than the whole wack, I would have asked the garage to make up the 10% as a goodwill gesture as they caused the confusion.

Notify them ASAP that there is hissing from the front now.
