I read about them sticking on the lag1 and peeps have to bust open the bonnet through the wheel arch or something. Mine was getting tight to I took it apart and greased it to within an inch of its life and the release catch works fine now.

You should be able to tell if it let go or was left open. I can't think of any way the catch could fail unless the spring stuck open or the catch snapped?

Glad you held it
