Use liberal amounts of WD40 or such to get the catch clean and well freed up. Then spray a light coat of lithium grease which is excellent at repelling moisture which seems to be the biggest cause of bonnet catch problems.
Also too much grease tends to attract dirt and dust which can cause it to become lazy.
