At least the catch is not plastic.
It is a bad design though, it should not jam that easily and there is no way of telling if it has engaged properly when the bonnet has closed.
As I mentioned before, with other designs of bonnet catch - the catch is forced into the closed position when the bonnet is dropped or the bonnet will not close properly if it is siezed.
