Presumably now that brake pads can no longer contain asbestos their longevity is compromised. As discussed in one of my earlier threads, tomorrow I'll be replacing the MG's rear discs and pads as they are practically falling apart at 30K miles
This particular problem does not seem to be restricted to MG or Renault - it seems to be a common problem
To be fair, if your next service is at 60K it would seem prudent for Renault to want to change them now. The other thing would be to get the OEM pads and have them fitted by an independent. This should not affect your warranty and should save a few quid
As for having no wear indicators on the Priv spec Espace I'm frankly amazed!
