Certainly, if the car has been maintained by a dealer at the recommended service intervals, then this should be Renault's responsibility. If these items need regular maintenance, then they should either do this as part of the service schedule, or bring it to the attention of the owners in the manual.

I've just been out and checked our Clio this morning. The action on the main catch seems to be fine (I'm tempted to grease it anyway, but if it ain't broke...) The secondary catch is also operating freely, with a strong spring return action. The catch engages positively so that you cannot lift the bonnet by hand with the main catch released. I'm inclined to leave it at that, though something nagging says I should 'cover my ar*e' and get the free check-up from a dealer anyway.
