Renault Scenic I - Key fob issues

Brand new here. Just bought my wife a 1998 scenic for her first car and she loves it. With it being an old car it has a few problems, the main concern being the key fob. It works when it likes. Had the battery replaced today but its still the same. It looks like the actual button that you pressed has seen better dys and if you press it in different ways it eventually activates.

My main concern is obviously if the fob breaks the immobiliser wont be deactivated to start the car. I presume the chip inside is ok, as it does still operate the central locking and immobiliser if you press it in the right spot. Can I just buy a second hand key and swap the fobs over?

Is this even the right place to ask this question? If not, I apologise in advance.
