Just because the diagnostic computer says the steering lock is furbarred doesn't mean it is. It could be just reading a stored fault which occured when the original card failed.
If the diagnostiic equipment can't communicate with the lock it assumes it's furbarred.
Every time I see an episode of "little Britain" where there is a scene with the line "The Computer says No" I think of Renault technicians - I wonder why
I wonder if any of the shows writers own a Renault
