Lets not be under any illusion about 'greeness' lads.
Its all about money.
The reason that cars will be charged less (or not at all) is because look how much revenue the govt makes from the sale of these (usually even more expensive models).
You have your VAT, first registration fee, etc - plus you will end up spending more on fuel, parts, servicing (again, more duty & VAT levied there), compared with a bike.
There has also been a shift from car to bike useage/ownership which is costing the govt tax revenue.
At the end of the day, the govt is too busy spending the money we are forced to give them on bailing out banks & propping up major businesses (that are largely the authors of their own misfortune), to worry about just how logical or coherent their policies make.
I fully expect the free VED for pre-1973 cars to be the next casualty - it would seem that no-one is safe these days from being mugged in their own home.
This job should never be complete - the day I think I've done it all, is the day I resign.
