To change the lights to the newer wedge-shaped ones, you'd also have to replace every panel forward of the windscreen. The change in headlight shape affects the design of the bonnet, wings and radiator grille, the last of which is (I think) an integral part of the front bumper. I'd say it'd probably work out cheaper to trade your car in against the newer model, unless you're lucky enough to find a write-off that hasn't had those components damaged. Even then, it'll cost you an arm and a leg for paint.

The back end is easier: The lights would be a straight swap, and they just unbolt from inside the boot. The other dead give-away from the rear is the boot catch. I'm not sure how easy that would be to swap.
