Like the theory Ralph. Sounds good!
Again I read somewhere a while back, that every time there is a ice age, that is the planets way of healing it's self and renewing the ozone. All the nasties from the air gets trapped in the ice and the planet starts again with a clean slate. This is just another theory though brought about from taking ice core samples from the poles.
Also sort of backs up your theroy of the the 'big rock' hit the earth. Mass pollution in the air (aswell as L.S.D
) then followed by an ice age. Cooling of the earth. Planet starts again all fresh and rosey untill we (man) hit the scene!
The film 'the day after tomorrow' is loosely based around this. Dunno how accurate the film is with earths past ice ages, but I always remember the comment at the end of the film when the astronaughts look down on the planet from the space station, 'look how clear the air is'
