I read on, here but can't refind the post that if you hold the botton down on the end of the wiper stalk (the one that scrolls through the trip, mpg etc.) then put in the key card the speedo.rev. etc will all go through a test mode ie cycle through all revs and all speeds this will then tell you if it is a fuse problem. As if as fuse has gone this test wont occur. There are some other fuses under the first fuse box in the engin bay however they are not easy to access without removing the top tray of fuses.

I'll check the haynes book and the hand book when I get in to see if I can help you further.
