Thanks for your replies

We understand from the Renault dealers (they had the car last week to investigate the problem) that the modification Renault made to the sunroof in 2004 was to tighten all screws and rivets and that is why they are now recommending that the whole sunroof frame be replaced!. They were very good and didn***8217;t charge us and they were amazed the Renault UK were not prepared to pay something towards its repair.
Having spoken to Renault Uk themselves apparently don***8217;t recognise that there is a problem with this type of sunroof and as the work they carried out was under warranty and no charge was made there is no come back on the work carried out by them.

We weren***8217;t totally ignorant of Renault***8217;s faulty sunroofs but we were lead to believe they had problems mainly with the manual tilt/remove roof and one dealer told us they had now solved the problems by using a lubricant. We can only assume with hindsight that when we test drove the car the seller was showing us how the radio/cd and sunroof worked and probably left it in the tilt position therefore hiding the fault.

This is our 17 year old daughter***8217;s first car and she doesn***8217;t have the money for expensive fixes so we will now try to find a reliable mechanic to look at it and try tightening the screws once more.

We would be very interested to know if it is a well known problem and how others have solved it.

Thank once again
