Firstly your Laguna is a mark 1 phase 2,not a mark 2 just in case it causes any confusion to the thread.

The immobiliser is purely controlled by the key chip sending a signal to the aerial around the ignition barrel and bears no relation to wether the central locking blip works or not,unlike on earlier models.

It's either a faulty chip in the key giving a weak or intermittant signal,an intermittant problem with the aerial,a fault with the wiring between the aerial and the ECU ,or an ECU problem.

To illiminate the key,have you got a spare one you could try?.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
