After speaking to the local Renault service department I took the plunge and drilled through the blanking plug visible in the photos I posted previously. Technician/Mechanic/Fitter (don't know which they are called these days) reckoned it was merely a fitting to hold the sound proofing together.
Ran the cable round the inside wing, behind the air filter box and into the battery box.
I can easily do the direct connections to the battery for the permanent live feed but does anyone know if there is a spare connection for the ignition switched 12v feed in the fuse box beside the battery. This is the fuse box with the 20 and 30 amp fuses. Ideally a spare spade connection as that is what is on the wire that was provided and would save me joining using other methods.
FYI the bowden cable going through the bulkhead was the bonnet release cable I fould out.
