Laguna 2 Heater Taking Ages to Warm

Hi,

I've a 51 reg Laguna 2 1.9dCi 120bhp and the heater takes ages to heat up. I checked it a while back and discovered that the radiator cooling fan was always running, albeit at slow speed. This was irrespective of whether or not the air con was switched on. The other thing that may be connected is that the rear screen element seems to come on of it's own accord sometimes. It's noticeable on damp days. Any help with where to look would be appreciated before the cold mornings draw in.
Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.:)

This seems like quite a popular problem on the Lag 2 at the moment. We have had a few people complaining of the same thing, but as yet there is no obvious answer to the problem.

Just one question, does the engine temperature on the gauge rise at a reasonable rate form cold?.It could be a thermostat problem,if it rises slowly. If not, then I'm sure someone else will be along in a moment to give you other ideas.:)

Hi,
Thanks for the reply and the welcome.

When fault finding a while ago I also removed the thermostat and checked it in boiling water. It's opening/closing at approx correct temperature. Don't get me wrong - the car does heat up to a decent temp, it just takes a longer while than you would expect. The thing I don't understand is why the radiator cooling fan is on when the system doesn't require it. You would assume that the fan would stay idle until required (unless air con is on). I wondered if the heated rear windscreen works from the same circuit and has a known association, and therefore could cure 2 birds with 1 stone.
Any further help would be greatly appreciated.
