Hi,
My 98 Espace coolant temperature display is completely blank. It is a dual display: at switch on it shows engine oil level, then on engine start, is supposed to change to coolant temperature, but recently stopped showing temperature. I have removed the display and got the backlights working on the radio and clock displays by cleaning the flexible printed circuit / bulb connections, but cannot get the temp display to show.

Question: Would this probable be due to the temperature sensor being faulty. If so, can someone please tell me where to find it on the engine.

Ren.

I have since gotten the temperature display working again by removing the top of the display housing, removing the flexible tape feeding the temperature gauge LCD, cleaning the contacts, then reseating it very definitely in its connector. I also had to mend a break in the backlight flexible tape which was the cause of intermittent dimming of the displays.

test your temp sendor switch...

sounds like ther is something wrong with your temp semder switch or the cable running from the switch to the dash.

if you find the switch. it is normally by the thermostat housing. disconnect it and short the cable to earth on the engine block or chassis in the engine bay and turn on you ignition.
your temp gauge should now go full scale to read hot.
if it does then the cable is ok and the switch has gone open circuit and you ned a new one. :)

Hi. If you look in your Espace Handbook, it shows you how to turn your temperature display on and off (you can also change the mph to km). I'm pretty sure you turn the ignition on, press and hold the button on the end of the windscreen wiper stalk and press the minutes button on the dash display, this will make the temperature display come on or go off.. If you do the same but press the hour button you change mph to kmph and vice versa.. Goddluck
