Megane MK2 1.6 Over Heating

I recently purchased a Renault Megane MK2 04 plate 1.6.

Since getting it home it keeps over heating!

There seems to be no leak, no puddles or any signs of water around the engine bay. I have checked the Oil lovely and clean.

Now if I put the blowers on full blast they blow through very hot and this keeps the temp at a reasonable level but turn them off and it picks and choices to stay normal or suddenly shots up causing me to have to stop and let it cool down before continuing my journey.

Does anyone have any idea what this could be?

Any help would be really appreciated!!

You havn't mentioned anything about the water level.

You should start with the thermostat operation and also check the radiator cooling fan is operating.

Welcome Jamie, sorry to hear of problems so soon.
Your car may still be leaking even if it isn't "marking it's territory". There is an enormous (PITA) sheet of plastic under the engine, there for aerodynamic reasons. But it stops leaks showing on the road.
As Renoir says check water level, should be up to the seam.
Unfortunately, my bet is water pump leaking.
If you have no record of a cambelt change in the last 5 years or 70,000 miles, then have both done anyway, may cost, but less than a rebuilt engine, should the cambelt fail or the water pump bearing collapse.
Have you any warranty from the selling garage?

Sorry forgot to mention the water levels.

The water levels despite keep over heating haven't changed. It is still on the maximum line.

And when I am driving I have heard the fan come on but cant guarantee it has every time but it has done.

Don't know if this further information helps with an idea.

Thanks again
