94 Safrane Heater Woes!

Hi
A friend has a '94 Safrane (without a/c) that he uses for an 80 mile commute every day in & out of London. The heater is barely working and any warm air is entering the cabin ONLY from the screen vents. I'm a Renault Virgin and have offered my services to this friend to try and get some warmth into his car!
I understand that Renaults seem to suffer from blocked heater matrix problems throughout the range; does anyone have any Safrane heater fixes including the control cable routing/flap mechanics to allow proper air distribution and matrix unblocking tricks??

Sorry for the long-winded post - hope you can help!

Many thanks

Hello,and welcome to the forum.

Does the heater fan work at all?

There are 2 known weak points with the Laguna 1 system(should be the same as Safrane),the heater fan resistor and the heater matrix blocking up/air lock.

There is an in depth 'How to' on both subjects.I'll try and find them for you.

Safrane heater woes addendum....

.....an afterthought.....
Does anyone know how the control cables to the air distribution box are connected and if they fail (as the direction knob appears to on this car) how to repair or reconnect them? This Safrane gets a tickle of air to the screen and nowhere else - the driver has taken to wearing 3 pairs of socks and thermals on his commute!!
It may be self evident once I'm up in the dash area but probably not...?!?

Many thanks again!

96 Safrane (no A/C) heater problems!

Well, had the hoses off the matrix, back-flushed a number of times and the fluid ran clear and easily as per the 'help' article. Have yet to try the alkaline based cleaner in the matrix though.

The heater still barely pumps out any heat at all and almost more annoyingly, the controls to the heater box don't do anything - the air only goes to the screen. I've undone the 6 tiny torx screws that hold the heater control panel on to investigate any potential problems there to no avail.

There appears to be no glovebox - just an airbag, Is this right? If this is the case, how can I get to the matrix if I need to replace it?

The Safrane in question belongs to a friend; I'm just trying to help!

Any advice gratefully received!
