I have exactly the same model and year of car, also a 1.2, and 70 miles round town on a
tenner is about right. That works out at mid 30s mpg.
On a motorway run you should be looking at 40+ mpg. I did York to West Cumbria over the A66, then down the M6 to Liverpool, total of 308 miles and when I filled her up it had done exactly 40mpg - I actually expected better but it's well due a service, and is suffering from the cutting out at junctions problem, which probably isn't doing mpg much good.
I certainly know that when I got it 4 years ago it did better mpg than I'm getting now, but she is getting old after all...
