The diesel bug is a myth. The dirty stuff that tends to collect in diesel fuel is actually formed by the water or moisture that diesel tends to attract as it can be hygroscopic.
Any additive added to the fuel will enter the engine via the fuel injection system where it will be burnt. If it removes any deposits there are only 3 routes for exit. One is the exhaust, then there is the engine breathing system and thirdly it ends up in the lube oil . And if you have one of the more modern engines fitted with an exhaust filter I would guess it may get caught in there.
