Most diesel engine fuel filters also have a small drain valve at the bottom so you can drain off any water that may accumulate. In fact to compensate for the water problem large diesel engines not only have filters but also water traps. Personally I believe diesel fuel filters should be changed at least every 12,000 miles considering the cost of replacement pumps or injectors
