If the engine isn't turning over then it's not the
sensor at fault,more likely a corroded connection to the starter motor.
From memory the starter is hidden right up at the back of the engine which is a bit of a pain to get to,but you need to try and pull the small wire off of the solenoid and see if it's clean.
If all seems well there,then it could a battery/starter/earth fault,but I'd start with checking the wire to the starter and go from there.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
