just to add to your thread, silicon grease as you say has relatively poor lubricating properties and is ideal for use on rubber and plastic. Its also good for for lubricating cables to be pulled through grommits and glands. We use alot of this at work for pulling cables in through runs where the friction from other cables makes it hard.
