Your absolutely right,with diesels being more expensive than a comparative petrol engined model and the cost of diesel being more,there is definately a point where buying a diesel is pretty much pointless,and it certaintly is for 3,000 miles a year.
Having said that,I'm sure that if you drove a new 2 litre diesel VW you'd probably fall in love with it.
I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
