Laguna II Vents & Air Fresheners = BAD

I told a guy at work that I had picked up a 2002 Laguna, and he got surprisingly excited. As it turns out, he was the workshop foreman for one of the local Renault dealers. He said that they were great cars, but you have to look after them.
One interesting gem he told me that I thought was worth passing on was he told me to never use those air fresheners that plug into the air vents. He said that the vents easily push into the dashboard - and it takes a bloke 2 days to fix it. Apparently the whole lot has to come out so that you can push the vent back into place, and it is a nasty job to do.

A good tip. Does this apply to the centre vents or the outer ones? If it's the centres, then it might explain why they've made them so much easier to remove on the phase II (two screws hidden behind a trim strip that runs the width of the dash. The trim strip just unclips.)

Most of the clip-on air fresheners seem to be the ones with the liquid fragrance, and I won't go near them anymore anyway. Certainly not after what one did to our (then) brand new Clio. The bottle fell off, and the wife's grandmother, who was in the passenger seat at the time, picked it up and left it on the dash. By the time they got back to the car, the oil had run right the way down the dash and left a permanent stain.

Cockpit Shine would hide it for a good few weeks, but it always came back and so required regular repeat treatment. So when it comes to car air fresheners, the only ones I'll go near are the cardboard ones that are impregnated with a fragrance, or hang-up plastic ones that have a similar fragranced disc inside. I won't touch the ones with liquid fragrance in them with a ten foot pole.

Going back in the mists of time, I'm sure we had a car cleaning professional on here who basically said the same thing.
