I had to take mine off my Megane II when i changed the gear linkage. I originaly could not get it off but it does just pull off but you will need to putt it VERY gard! It just pushes back on.
Hi Frog - the gear lever knob is bonded on at the factory by a special two-part epoxy resin adhesive. The old one needs to be cut off using a hack-saw and the new one put back on using a similar glue. There are some out there that claim they can be held on with a small grub screw but I've heard reports that they come loose soon after fitting. Whe gluing th enew one it essential that all components be toroughly cleaned other wise th ebondig won't adhere.
Take care Mick - don't do what one guy on here did - he ended up pulling the gear lever out of it's socket - must have applied some pressure though - and guess what he still didn't get the darn knob off.
Mine just pulled straight up with a little force (nothing major) once off you can see its a "T" shape gear stick left behind , so the gear knob can only go back on one way, just pops back down. very straight forward procedure but not a lot of info on it, Not sure about replacing the actual gear knob maybe there is away but if you pull it all off you would need a replacement with a "T" shaped hole
I was just replacing the circular plastic trim as my clips had broken off, botched job from the previous owner or garage they left it in with..
Hi, I am new to the forum and have been searching to find out if it is possible to replace the selector legend on the gear knob which has become worn.(the bit that has the 1,2,3,4,5,6 and R on it)I have a 56 plate Megane II, privilege. Can anyone help? I have seen the replacement plastic legend on ebay. many thanks.
On Mine, chrome was chipped, bought from nonstopauto (ebay). New one was silver not chrome, but then it wouldn't chip, would it?
Levered old one up with a small screwdriver, easy when one has the new one in hand to see how it fits.
New one just pushed in.
