I'm looking to remove the bulkhead, which I thought would be a simple job.
The bolts are easy to remove from the top and bottom of the bulkhead, but the fixings down the side aren't bolts and I'm not sure how these come off. A picture of one of the offending items is attached.
Are they some kind of rivet, or do I need to remove these from the cab side of the bulkhead? That would mean removing the seats and some plastic trim, so seems a bit excessive for bulkhead removal!
The "new" bulkhead that I'll be putting in came out of the donor van with no fuss. All the fixings were bolts so it was simple.
These fixings are metal. I've tried using pliers on them and they just spin and spin, which suggests there's no thread.
I'd just like to know what type of fixing they are before I resort to crude methods! I don't want to be left with a bunch of sheared off threaded bolts!!
Thanks for the advice guys and apologies for the delay in replying.
I was unable to drill the rivets out (not sure my drill was really up to the task!) but I ended up getting them off with a hammer and chisel and no harm done to the bulkhead or van.
Hello...
I remove the bulkhead from same van. (conversion to motorhome).
As you already discovered the bottom and top screws is easy to remove. But for side one studs the only way to remove it is to drill a 8mm hole in center. Be careful to drill only the stud head and not in body to wan. Then you can remove bulkhead. I do little more work as other part of stud fall down where seat belt roller is installed. So remove plastic which cover the seatbelt machine and remove it. Remove the seatbelt roller too is only one big screw. Then you can put hand in hole and pick the remaining of studs. If your hand is to big ask some child or wind some tape to stick with glue part outside and poke that to hole and "fish" for studs. It's not absolutely necessary to do that but if you don't the stud remaining will make rattle sound when you drive.
But don't know how to install bonnet back. The stud is like pop rivet but from stell and not aluminum. Maybe you can use big self threading bolt or pop rivet.
