A lot will also depend on your driving/braking style as well. 36k for pads doesn't seem to bad. With modern pads/disc materials these days discs do not last a s long as they used to.
It may be worth geting a second opinion on the brakes. Was it your dealer who told you they needed changing? If you go along to a "kw*k F*t" type place they will do a free brake check.
