Renault Scenic I Phase 1 - ABS light on

Hi Everyone

My 1998 1.6 Scenic just failed the MOT as the ABS light is on. I am thinking of taking it to an auto diagnostic place in Belfast but would also like to do some checking myself.

The light comes on at start up and stays lit.

Is there anything anyone can recommend doing? I have read about checking the under bonnet fuses and the other 5amp fuse in the car. These seem ok.

One thing to note is that I felt a slight pulsing from the pedal when I drove it after the light came on. This only happened one time. I also tested the brakes and the ABS appears to be still working.

Is this an indication that it might be the ABS pump?

My wife says she heard a grinding noise from the front brakes, but I haven't been able to confirm this.

The pads and disks were changed about 20K ago.

Are the ABS sensors easy to take out and clean? I have removed these on my Discovery and they are easy to do. Just one allen bolt to remove. Maybe the Scenic is similar?
