The grinding noise might be a clue as it is possible one of the sensors or reluctor rings has come adrift or been damaged. On some models the sensors are a pig to remove but it would be worth checking their condition and electrical connections.
Also remember if rear drums are fitted the sensors are inside the drums.
A diagnostic machine may be able to detect which sensor is faulty but is unlikely to state the exact cause or effect a repair
Before getting someone to put the car on diagnostics check that they can access the ECU aspect of the ABS system as not all machines can manage it.

Where you thinking of going to Renault or an independent garage??
As I live in Belfast I would like to find a decent independent who could diagnose if necessary.
