Ah yes, but my 2.2 delivers a rip-roaring 83bhp
Insurance group 9 is already at the top end of what is affordable to insure for a 21-year old, even with 3 years' NCB, I don't think the 1.8 was available in the UK and even an 8v Renault 1.8 petrol still puts down 95bhp and comparable torque (albeit less accessible.)
Both the 2.0 8v and 2.5TD Safrane are in IG13, and frankly if I was going to spend that, I'd probably go for a manual 2.0 16v, since it's much faster, not much worse on fuel (due to the TD only being available as an auto - aargh!) and only 1 IG higher.
I looked at two 1.8 manuals before I bought the 2.0 auto, they were good cars, one owned by a lady doctor from new (56,000 miles) and spotless, but I had concerns over timing belt and regularity of services.
So I'm guessing that they would be available in The UK, but those two I seen were over a nine month period.
