Do you know which make of aftermarket cat would be fitted?
If it's Bosal, then they are perfectly acceptable, and one of the better makes.

The most important thing to do is 'run in' a new cat by keeping the engine at a constant fast idle speed(around 2500-3000rpm) for 10 minutes immediately after initial fitting, otherwise the components inside can be damaged and this will lead to premature failure. The garage who fit your cat should know this, but many don't.........

Hope this helps

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
