The fault will still be held in the ECU memory,(so this will have to be erased),but if the cat cures the problem,then the car should run fine as the ECU will get the correct messages from it's various sensors.

Best thing to do is have the cat replaced,then have the ECU reset,then see if the problems/ ECU codes reappear after a few weeks.

I'm pretty sure that disconnecting the battery won't reset the ECU ......

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
