Not wanting to sound condacending, but as you say this has happened twice now, have you checked that the drain tube is secure to the outlet hidden in the window part of the tailgate?

I had the same thing happen to my Laggy. From what i can remember, you have to remove the wiper motor, but this is easily done (only 3 bolts). YThe drain tube is just a pice of clear plastic tubing, but it connects to a right angled connector on the drain hole. Mine had worked loose and that was why water was getting to the boot release.

It will juts push straight back onto the connector if it has come off. You can secure it on with some superglue or super sticky tape.
