Then it does sound like a
sensor problem.You can try removing it and cleaning it,this will work in most cases,or you can replace it.When you buy one from Renault it will usually come with a replacement connector which has to be joined into the existing wiring.It's not a difficult job,but I think you have to swap the wires over as they don't follow the colour coding in the loom.
If you have a look in the 'How To' section,there is a thread with pics on how to remove the sensor,if you just clean the magnetic end of it and make sure there are no metal fillings stuck to it,then refit the sensor I'm pretty sure all will be well.
