Very complex it is -is the tank unit - it is.
On petrol Renaults the tank unit incorporates a fuel pump, float measuring device and on some models a low fuel level sensor. Thats it as far as I can see from looking at the last one.
The onboard computer is quite dumb in some respects. It can only gauge (not measure accurately) what fuel is left in the tank. It can record the distance travelled and the number of revs the engine has done and at what fuel settings. This is then extrapolated (oh how I love that big word) into readings which should be taken with a pince of salt.
I can actually get my MPG reading to measure zero - now if you can answer me that one I would love to hear the answer - no guesswork or looking up the Tinternet now
