Flat battery and no access to laguna II

Being the down trodden son inlaw who advised father in law not to buy Renault (apparantly the only correct thing I have done in years) I suffer from moaning of electronitis whenever a problem arises. Today they returned from holiday to find car would not do anything, manual key would not even work. The battery is 2 months old, the AA man is jacking the car up to try to access the starter motor from below after scratching his head for some time. Are there any ideas out there that I could suggest, already being further in the Doghouse for letting my daughter put a fake scratch on the car, I need to get some Brownie points. Please Help.
