Thanks to all who have replied. Very helful and prompt. I have contacted Renault and they are "dealing with the matter" with a view to helping me with costs. I will not hold my breath. I will be shopping around for the best deal re servicing and changing the timing belt. In the meantime my car has to be fixed PDQ as I cannot be without it for any time. I need a reliable car and do a lot of mileage. I have decided to bite the bullet and get my local dealer to fix it. The convenience, loss of earnings plus hire car costs elements has forced me.
