What I would do is next time you visit the petrol station fill it up to the brim, reset your trip computer so its down to 0 miles covered, drive as normal until you next fill up (make sure you fill up) and make a note of the distance covered since last fill up.
On your receipt it'll tell you how many litres you have put into the tank, make a note of that and the distance you covered from the last fill up (should be on your trip computer)
Type in the values and you should get a more accurate reading on mpg
My clio says its empty after around 30 litres of fuel used, despite it supposedly having a 50 litre tank, which is strange
But doing the above will give you an accurate reading.
