My parents used to talk about double declutching and explained how it worked and that if you got the thing perfectly you could do clutchless gear changes. I found this very useful when my Mini Clubman Traveller clutch went just as I was leaving Bristol for Birmingham one day and had a good old practise of it. Crossing through central Birmingham in rush hour was a mite entertaining I have to admit!

What I never really understood was why I had to start the car in first gear and then I could move up through them. Now Davesss you seem to know a lot about all this. Is it just lack of competence or is there a reason why I couldn't go clutchless into first?
