Just before this develops any further,in answer to the original question,the throttle pedal sensor (which I guess is built into the peddle on your car) can give problems.There are two circuits in the sensor,one which goes from 0v to 5v as you depress the pedal,and one that goes in the opposite direction (5v to 0V).If one of them is faulty or the circuit is lost,then it will flick the light on.

I hope the pedal sorts it,let us know how you get on.

I'd rather push my Alfa than drive a BMW....
